Group Study Sessions
What is Group Tutoring?
A series of weekly sessions for students enrolled in historically difficult courses. The sessions are led by a Group Leader who has already completed the course. This Group Leader assists students in understanding of course material through collaborative learning and peer-led discussion.
What occurs during a Group Tutoring session?
Group Tutoring is an opportunity for students to work together on concepts, review class notes, practice test-taking strategies, and prepare for exams.

What are historically difficult courses?
Historically difficult courses are those that have high failure or withdrawal rates.
When do Group Study Sessions start?
Group Study Sessions start the second week of class.
What is the role of a Group Study Leader?
The Group Study Leader will meet with the instructor for planning and prep, advertise session times and locations, attend class if needed, and share best practices and strategies during the sessions.
Do students have to attend every Group Study Session?
Attendance is voluntary. However, students who regularly attend Group Study Sessions tend to earn a higher grade and develop a better understanding of the course material.
How often and how long are the Group Study Sessions?
Group Study Sessions are once a week, each session is an hour; set times and days for the entire semester will be announced in the assigned class and on the CLSS website.
Do I have to pay to attend the Group Study Sessions?
No. Group Study is free to enrolled students.
What if the days and times do not fit into my schedule, what should I do?
For students who are not able to attend, other options are individual tutoring, walk in tutoring, professor office hours, online academic resources and other study groups.
I missed class. Can I just attend the Group Study Session?
No. Group Study Leaders do not re-lecture and you will gain little from attending the session.
Are Group Study Sessions available during the summer?
Group Study Sessions are only offered during the fall/spring semester.
Are Group Study Sessions available for graduate-level courses?
Group Study is not offered for graduate-level courses.
